AKI SERITA TAKASHIO Director/Senior Stylist
Aki began her career as a hair stylist in Kanagawa, Japan. In 1996, she moved to New York where she continued to pursue her work in hairdressing. She built up a loyal clientele with her wide range of skills from cut to color, and began serving them in her own private studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Aki opened Commune Salon & Gift on Grand Street in 2004 with the vision of a creative space as well as a comfortable hair salon.
KUMIKO SHIMIZU Senior Stylist
Kumiko is an accomplished hair stylist with over 20 years of experience. After mastering Japanese hair dressing techniques in Tokyo, she took the leap and moved to New York in 2011 to join Commune. Her attention to detail and precision cutting continues to be appreciated by many.
SHOKO YOKOYAMA Regular Stylist
(Maternity Leave from Feb. 20th 2018 to May 2018)
After years of serving numerous clients at a busy salon in trend-setting Tokyo, Shoko decided to try out her well-honed skills in New York in 2011. She brings her fresh, artistic eye and successful career of over 10 years to Commune.
TAKA SASAKI Regular Stylist
Taka’s experience encompasses over 15 years of dedicated professional hair care and styling. Having started his career in Sendai and Tokyo, Taka came to New York in the summer of 2014 to join Commune and expand his skilled artistry. His cultivated expertise in hair care adapts seamlessly toward Commune's style and philosophy.
AMI SEKI Regular Stylist
As our newest member of the salon, Ami brings a vibrant and unique energy to Commune. Ami began her career in Osaka where she worked as a hair stylist for 6 years before coming to New York in 2014. Specializing in head spa massage techniques and an eye for style, Ami first worked at Manhattan's Hayato Salon before coming to join Commune.
SHIHO TANAKA Senior Stylist
Shiho has over 20 years of experience as a hair stylist. She moved to New York in 1999 and worked in a salon in Manhattan before moving her services to a private studio in Williamsburg shared with Aki. With a talent for elegant and feminine styles, Shiho joined forces with owner Aki in 2004 to start Commune as a founder stylist. Shiho moved back to Japan in March 2015 but remains a cherished member of Commune.
